Discover Hidden Valley cherries
Hidden Valley orchard is nestled deep within Ardgour Valley, one of the sunniest in New Zealand. In summer the orchard is laden with delightfully sweet cherries which are ripened under the sun and hand-picked with care.
Our spectacular region is best known for its discovery of gold more than a century ago, yet the glacial waters of the nearby Upper Clutha and the rarefied air which flows through the valley, create a special habitat for a vast array of fauna and flora including deer, rabbits, birds and the occasional lost sheep.
It’s here too that New Zealand’s only falcon, the rare and majestic Kārearea surveys the undulating slopes undisturbed, its impressive wingspan casting shadows over Hidden Valley’s orchard beneath.
Ripe and ready
Our pickers are trained to know when cherries are at the peak of ripeness. They look for all-over colour, plumpness and size and hand-pick each piece fruit by the stem.
Introducing New Zealand’s best kept secret
At the heart of Central Otago on New Zealand’s South Island lies Tarras Cherry Corp’s Hidden Valley orchard. Here we produce crisp, sweet bursts of cherry goodness during New Zealand’s cherry season from December to February.
Our cherries grow at altitude in a remote and pristine valley near the tiny village of Tarras, in the Cromwell Basin. The pride of New Zealand’s crop, Central Otago cherries are revered around the world for their irresistible and delicious flavour, thanks to this region’s ideal climate and mineral-rich soils fed by glacial streams.
